Hi everyone,
Release 6.2 is an update for Content Manager (and the Playback Audit Parser) that is compatible with Tomcat 7 and with Java 7. These up-to-date technologies benefit from current support, whereas Tomcat 5.5 is end-of-life and Java 6 will be in February 2013.
By making Content Manager compatible with these new versions, you can benefit from the latest security improvements in these products. This is the primary feature and benefit of Release 6.2 (read below for a few other change notes.)
If you are running Release 6.1, we still support that version and you can get the latest updaters as usual. But you should be thinking about a plan to move to 6.2 and to upgrade your Tomcat and Java.
Release 6.2 requires Tomcat 7.0.30 or newer, and Java 7 Update 9 or newer. Those are the versions we've tested with. You can download them yourself, and run the 6.2 updater, or you can download a ZIP file containing the full Content Manager installer including these third-party components, and just let our installer take care of everything for you.
As usual, updaters are available at www.scala.com/updates:
Scala 5 Release 6.2
Content Manager 5 Release 6.2
- Content Manager now requires Java 7, and ships with the
Java runtime 7 Update 9. Similarly, the Playback Audit Parser also
requires Java 7.
- Content Manager now requires Tomcat 7, and ships with
Tomcat 7.0.30. When updating an older Content Manager
installation, the installer will offer to remove
Tomcat 5.5, and it will install or help you install
Tomcat 7. If the older installation was using MySQL, any
MySQL connectors will be copied into the correct location for
Tomcat 7.
Note: If the IAdea Bridge Server is installed on the same
server, it needs to be updated to version 3.0.6 or newer, for
Tomcat 7 support.
- With Tomcat 7, a few settings within Content Manager no
longer apply, and have been removed:
- The Restart Server button on the Settings >
Server Settings screen.
- The Max Spare Threads option on the HTTP
connector configuration screen.
- In the Playlist Item Properties dialog, there is a new
checkbox, Audit item, which defaults to being checked.
If you clear this checkbox, that instructs Player not to log a
Playback Audit event for this playlist item. Requires Player
Release 6.1.2 or newer.
- Content Manager now recognizes files with the .m4v
extension as video files.
- Updated the digital signature on the File Uploader applet, so
that using the File Uploader no longer warns that the applet's
digital signature is valid but expired.
Cheers,
Peter & the Scala team
